IMPACT Instructional Designer
Radford University invites applications for the position of IMPACT Instructional Designer. This position will play a key role in Radford University's efforts to provide pedagogical, instructional design and development consultation related to courses, modules, and whole curricula for instructional projects. This position involves working with faculty, staff and subject matter experts in a variety of settings to conduct needs assessments, identify instructional goals, analyze objectives and content needs, develop appropriate assessments, and work with media development specialists and technical personnel to ensure instructional materials and experiences are functional and effective within computer-supported delivery modes. This position reports to the Senior Director of Operations of the IMPACT Lab at Radford University. This is a grant-funded position. Continuation is based on funding and performance.

Required Qualifications: Educational background supporting a solid understanding in learning science and instructional design. Considerable experience with instructional design projects, preferably in public education and not just industry/corporate environments, with an emphasis on design for online and alternate delivery methods. Experience in the use of a variety of instructional technologies and design methods, including one or more learning management systems. Ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical users. Demonstrated successful design, development, implementation and evaluation with a variety of instructional products. Working knowledge of skills, tools, and processes used in the development and delivery of web-based training / e-Learning. Ability to take actions independently in conjunction with understanding the strategies, goals, financial constraints, etc. of institutional stakeholders. Working experience with the design, preparation and documentation of work plans and design documents. Ability to see the big picture and report progress accordingly. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive organization topics and issues as well as maintain learner privacy.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with multiple learning management systems; desktop communication environments (e.g., Adobe Connect, Zoom); collaboration and documentation tools/platforms (SharePoint, Office365, OneNote, Google Drive, Slack); the Quality Matters or OLC quality assurance program for online courses; and developing and validating learner assessments (e.g. design of evaluation instruments, summative test, and item design), particularly in machine-scored environments. Ability to work proactively on teaching and learning problems of diverse scope.
Understanding of adult learning theory, distance learning, web-based training, synchronous and asynchronous learning and best practices in eLearning. Working knowledge of quality assurance practices in online higher education environments. Knowledge of how accessibility technologies and ADA/Section 504 (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements apply to online learning applications. Experience with development of assessments of pedagogical effectiveness and student learning outcomes of digital learning pedagogies.
