ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Neurology Department of the University of South Florida is the academic clinical neurosciences center for the greater Tampa Bay area. Currently the 4th fastest growing metropolitan region nationally, in southwest Florida, comprising of over 4 million people. Florida leads the United States in job creation with Tampa/Hillsborough County at the forefront. Our 50 member faculty encompasses all major neurological subspecialties with particular repute in the areas of neuromuscular, epilepsy, movement disorders, Parkinson's, neurotoxic ology, cerebrovascular disease, neurocritical care and cognitive neurology.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Licensed Practical Nurse provides practical nursing services to research patients under the direction of a licensed medical professional. This position will performs research duties, and provides specialized program support. This position will also provide patient care, screening patients for clinical trials, responsible for appointment scheduling, diagnostic testing and medical record management. May provide training or oversight to lower level clinical research staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administers investigational product (aka clinical trial medications) via oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, topical and intradermal routes, and initiates intravenous therapy as ordered by physician or nurse practitioner for research patients. Performs other duties as covered under the LPN Practice Act and directed by a physician.
Evaluates potential research participants with Principal Investigator or ARNP/PA; schedules screening evaluations; explains consent process; performs required screening evaluations; randomizes participants into appropriate research study. Coordinates and schedules study visit and follow-ups. Oversees or performs required procedures for each visit. Records data on each study participant for each visit according to research protocol, maintaining complete study progress notes and case report from for each visit. Reports any Adverse Event according to protocol. Communicates questions, problems, changes to the Senior Clinical Research Associate and/or Principal Investigator. Assists with submission of protocol applications, amendments, annual review, adverse event reports and study sponsor communication to IRB as required.
Provides basic lab procedures/collects lab specimens. Performs phlebotomy skills. Obtains lab results and documents in the medical record. Orders medical supplies as needed and stocks exam room/ work area.
Data entry for clinical trials, proofing for data entry errors, and preparing patient/participant documents for study visits, which includes development of source documents as needed. Assist with monitoring visits and attend Investigator Meetings as requested by the Research Manager. Communicates to potential clients and their families about trials, and distributes promotional materials supplied by the sponsors. Conducts patient visits and testing, including preparation of laboratory shipments and obtaining required information from study subjects during patient visits.
Oversees site inventory of supplies for the division (lab kits, premedication, patient specific supplies, office supplies).
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes, or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Chapter 64 B9, Florida Administrative Code. Additionally three years of primary care experience is required.
PREFERRED:
Clinical Research experience.
