Organizational Objective / Goal
The mission of the University Advancement and University Relations Division is two-fold:
The purpose of University Advancement is to assist in the strategic identification and implementation of revenue-generating activities through philanthropy and constituency support. Core responsibilities for Advancement include setting and achieving fund-raising objectives for the institution upon approval of the President and the Board of Visitors. Core responsibilities of Alumni Relations include attracting, informing, and engaging alumni in a manner that leads to financial and other forms of strategically meaningful support for the institution. The purpose of University Relations is to strategically lead and coordinate the institution's reputation management efforts, which shall lead to effective outcomes for the institution's strategic vision. Core responsibilities include a range of activities such as branding, public and media relations, presidential and university-wide communication programs, promotions, channel planning and execution (publications, web, social, advertising, etc.), crisis and issue management, and other forms of communication to support the University's overall mission and goals. By communicating Mary Washington's distinctive role within the Virginia system of higher education, with its emphasis on a broad liberal arts education and high-quality instruction, the office also performs a marketing function supporting such areas as student and faculty recruitment and retention, fund raising, alumni relations, community relations, and governmental support.
General Description of Position This position provides administrative support to the Vice President for executive responsibilities and to the Vice President's direct or indirect reports as assigned, as well as provides coordination and support for the effective management of office operations. This position anticipates, plans, and acts in a timely, proactive way to ensure optimal outcomes for the Vice President and University.

Required Education High school graduate or equivalent training and experience
Required Experience Previous experience as an administrative assistant or professional field with transferable relevant skill or relevant education in related fields of marketing, communications, and/or business
Demonstration of strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including excellent grammatical, spelling, and overall editorial skills.
Demonstration of excellent computer skills, including word processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheet (Excel), email (Outlook), PowerPoint, and database management.

Preferred Education Bachelor's degree preferred with specialized course work in communications, marketing and/or business administration.
Preferred Experience Previous executive administrative experience.
Prior experience working in a nonprofit, fundraising, marketing, or higher education position or demonstrated knowledge of basic fundraising, alumni relations, stewardship, and University relations principles and operations.
Ability to conceptualize, plan, implement, and assess/analyze projects needed to support the goals and functions of the division.
Use of data to form decisions. Ability to assess data, extrapolate core findings, and present information in accessible manner.
Successful record of building constituent relationships (internal and external) in way that appropriately represents executive leadership.
Oversight of vendors.
Experience using Banner software.
Experience with state purchasing/eVA.
Experience with iModules.
Required Licensure N/A
Preferred Licensure Certification in MS Office products.
Certification in project management.
