The University of Iowa is seeking qualified applicants for a Sous Chef position with the Fire Up Late Night Grill operation, located in Catlett Residence Hall. The Late Night Sous Chef will assist with food preparation needs for the residential dining operation at Catlett Market Place and actively participate in menu planning and introduction of new food products that meet established standards of quality.
The Late Night Grill Sous Chef will directly supervise student staff assigned to the Late Night retail operation to ensure high quality, safe, and cost-efficient production to students, staff, and university guests with consistent delivery of exceptional customer service. The Late Night Grill Sous Chef will participate in and supervise product ordering and inventory control, food production, customer service, cash handling, sanitation and general housekeeping of the Late Night operation.
The Sous Chef will also assist the Chef with Human Resources functions and supervision of staff. The position will be temporarily reassigned to residential dining and/or other University Dining operations during operations break periods.

Qualifications:
Education Requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, Institutional Management, Hotel & Restaurant Administration or related field; or an equivalent combination of education (completion of certificate in the Culinary Arts) and experience.
- Experience (typically 6 months – 1 year) in preparation and distribution of foods utilizing the latest techniques and knowledge of trends.
- Experience (typically 6 months – 1 year) in food service management, including supervising and inventory control.
- Working proficiency with use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) software applications.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse group of clientele with the ability to model open, respectful, accepting, and supportive behavior with others.
- Demonstrated working proficiency in the ability to collaborate and interact with individuals and groups, while appreciating the unique contribution of diverse individuals.
- Demonstrated working proficiency to lead and coach individuals or groups in learning and improving effectiveness in processes and procedures.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at a working proficiency level.
- Ability to obtain and maintain ServSafe Certification.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet the University’s Fleet Safety Program requirements.
- Experience in banquet planning, working in a large-scale food service and retail operation.
- Some experience working with part-time and/or student staff.
- Working knowledge of electronic payroll and timekeeping systems.
