Wages: $32.04-$37.50 / Hr, (2019)
Hours: Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (1/2 hr. lunch)

Position Description: The incumbent performs skilled diagnosis, maintenance, and repair work on Town of Steilacoom gas/diesel vehicles/equipment (cars, trucks, parks equipment, and heavy construction equipment). The individual in this position is responsible for preventative maintenance as well as safety inspections.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Journey level mechanic certification.
Or one of the following:
a) Completion of a recognized automotive machinist apprenticeship program.
b) ASE Master Automobile or Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Certification.
c) Graduation from an automotive or truck mechanic vocational program.
3. A minimum of four years experience in the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of a variety of gas powered vehicles, diesel vehicles and heavy equipment. (An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training to provide the level of knowledge and ability required for the position will be considered.)
4. Valid Washington Commercial Driver’s License/Class B with tanker endorsement.
5. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Washington Industrial First Aid Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Card.
6. Own a full complement of hand tools.
Physical Demands: Requires frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, climbing, twisting, and lying in a prone position. Often requires lifting a variety of weights up to and including 60 pounds. This incumbent is frequently involved in repetitive hand/arm movement, pushing/pulling, and grasping tools. The employee must be able to receive/understand written/verbal communication and give clear written/oral instructions.
Cognitive Requirements: The incumbent must be able to work in situations involving frequent task changes using different techniques, procedures, or degrees of attentiveness without loss of efficiency. The incumbent must be able to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
Terms of Employment: The incumbent may elect to be represented by Teamster Local Union 117. Employees in CDL positions will be subject to unannounced, random alcohol/drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
