Nestled in a 200-acre setting of extraordinary natural beauty, The Apartment Community of Our Lady of the Snows is a faith-based continuing care community dedicated to the pursuit of active retirement living and wellness in body, mind and spirit. We are a lively, diverse community that believes in honoring the unique spirit of each resident – the choices and experiences, the passions and stories that make up a life. Together, Under One Roof Whether you live in the Independent Apartments, at St. Francis Assisted Living or in Dammert Care Center, all three levels of care are available on one campus, under one roof. Our dedicated staff serves with compassion, kindness and the giving spirit of our founders, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. We live out the spirit and values of the Oblates on our campus at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows; the perfect setting for those who wish to deepen their faith and rekindle their hopes. Their mission is to “Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” Founded in France by St. Eugene De Mazenod in the year 1816, the order has grown to 4,500 priests and brothers today serving in 71 countries around the globe. While their primary dedication will always be of a spiritual calling, they reach out to those in need of physical, emotional and/or spiritual support through their sincere acts of charity. Senior Living at The Shrine In the 1960s, there were very few living options for seniors in the Belleville area. The Oblates thought the Shrine grounds would provide a lovely and serene atmosphere for senior living. In 1966, The Apartment Community was built on the grounds of the Shrine for supporters of the mission so they could live in closer proximity to the Oblates working with the poor. Today, The Apartment Community is a non-profit community that helps support the mission work of the Oblates. Residents, should they wish, may become involved in the outreach work of the Oblates.
