Assistant Teaching Professor Position - Public Relations

 

The Public Relations Department in Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications invites applications for a full-time, assistant teaching professor position in Public Relations to begin Fall of 2024.

 

The candidate must possess at least a bachelor's degree in communications or related discipline, a Master's degree is preferred. The successful candidates should have or show clear evidence of effective teaching and/or demonstrate leadership through professional work.

 

The ideal candidate should be able to teach multiple courses across our curriculum within our curriculum. These courses include digital media and analytics, public relations and social media writing, principles of public relations, and public relations research. There are also additional opportunities to teach courses such as ethics, public relations management, diversity in PR, or courses that complement the individual’s expertise.

 

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in using data and visual analytics to address public relations opportunities and challenges in today's communication environment. Of particular interest are candidates with teaching experience in areas related to:

  • Strategic public relations management based on data analytics,
  • Communicating insights and telling stories based on data and visual analytics, and
  • Application of big data analytics to evolving public relations practice in the applicant's specialty areas, including, but not limited to crisis management, entertainment/sports public relations, risk/health communication, financial communications and investor relations, or international public relations.

 

The ideal candidates should be able to integrate profession-based learning experiences into courses through field experiences or projects and teach both undergraduate and graduate courses. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to serve as the faculty advisor for our PRSSA chapter and to guide our student-run agency, Hill Communications. We are particularly interested in candidates who are passionate about teaching public relations and who demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
