PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER
Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications to create a hiring eligibility list for a full-time Commissioned Public Safety (Police) Officers at the Belleville Campus and/or Sam Wolf Granite City Campuses. The announcement and applications will be used for future positions. The hiring eligibility list will be valid for one-year.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, the Patrol Officer is a full-time commissioned officer (uniformed) position. The position is assigned shifts variably, to cover 24 hours, 7-day a week, schedule, and expected to be available for occasional overtime and holiday work. Patrol Officers are expected to perform collateral duties in an area of expertise/interest needed by the Department to fulfill its mission and AQIP initiatives. Enforces applicable policies, regulations and laws. Performs work of routine to complex difficulty in guarding and protecting life and property in buildings and on the grounds. Provides available services and assistance to the college community. Regulates the activities of the general public and other persons in the protection of property from fires, theft, vandalism, trespassing, and other hazards. Reports all pertinent information regarding actions occurring during a work shift. Position subject shall submit to and successful complete the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) test and Police Academy at the college selected location, background check, medical examination, psychological evaluation, and drug testing upon initial hiring and randomly thereafter.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required, college degree desirable.
- A minimum of one-year experience in law enforcement, security, fire safety, or other emergency management services required, preferably in a college campus environment, is desirable.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and a US Citizen.
- No record or criminal convictions of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.
- Professional certifications in Security, Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services or other areas related to Public Safety desirable.
- Possess a valid Driver’s License. Must have a good driver’s record with the Illinois Secretary of State Office or other states.
- Possess a valid Firearms Operators Identification Card (FOID).
- Successful submit and pass a physical (POWER) and psychological evaluation, medical examination, written evaluation, oral interview, and in-depth character background check.
- Must obtain Illinois Police Officer Certification within six months of the Board of Trustees appointment unless waivered in accordance with ILCS 50, Act 705/8.1.
STARTING PAY AND HOURS
$18.36 per hour
