EARTH SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR
ANNOUNCEMENT
Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track position of Instructor in the Practical Nursing/Nurse Assistant program(s) within the Health Sciences & Homeland Security division. The anticipated start date is August 24, 2020.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The successful applicant will serve as instructor in the Practical Nursing/Nurse Assistant program. As an instructor, the individual will teach Practical Nursing/Nurse Assistant courses in both the traditional and computerized environment, assist the program coordinator with program operations, maintaining standards, and the clinical education component of the program. The individual will also assess student performance and collaborate with Practical Nursing/Nurse Assistant faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in each of the programs. Opportunities exist for participation in professional development activities and service on departmental, divisional, and/or college-wide committees.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois (or the ability to obtain such a license prior to the start of official employment) is required.
- Illinois Department of Public Health certification to teach Nurse Assistant courses or the commitment to personally obtain such certification at earliest possible opportunity but no later than the start of a second year of employment.
- Completion of minimum of two years of clinical nursing practice. Diversity in clinical practice experience, med-surg, OB, psych, is preferable.
- Prior teaching experience in a practical nursing program is preferred. CNA instructor experience is a plus.
- Qualified through education and/or experience to assure proficiency in, but not limited, to the following areas:
- Curriculum design
- Program administration/evaluation
- Instructional methodology
- Testing and evaluation
- Educational psychology
- Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills.
- Must meet and continue to maintain the professional standards established by the program's accrediting agencies including the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
- Experience in accreditation activities, preferred.
- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers, applicable software, and Internet required.
- Ability to meet, successfully complete and maintain minimum health requirements, drug and/or reference checks required by the college, program accreditation and/or clinical facilities prior to and throughout employment.
- Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Administration and the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses.
- A valid driver's license is required.
STARTING SALARY
This is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule. For example, the minimum 2018-2019 starting salary at step one Bachelor's Degree is $46,599. Voluntary overload teaching assignments and summer may increase the annual compensation by 40%. The College offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.
WORK LOCATION
East St. Louis with district-wide responsibilities. Driving may be required to reach off-campus sites, visit clinical facilities throughout the region, and to attend professional functions within the state of Illinois.

Full-time Practical Nursing Coordinator-Instructor

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The successful applicant will serve as the coordinator and instructor in the Practical Nursing program. As coordinator, the individual will be responsible for the organization, administration, periodic review, continued development, and overall effectiveness of the educational program/courses throughout the district. As an instructor, the individual will teach Practical Nursing, Nurse Assistant, or Nursing Education courses in both the traditional and computerized environment. The individual will also assess student performance and collaborate with Practical Nursing faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in the program/courses. Opportunities exist for participation in professional development activities and service on departmental, divisional, and/or college-wide committees.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Illinois with a minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing practice. Diversity in clinical practice experience, med-surg, pediatrics preferable.
- Master of Science degree in Nursing from an academic institution accredited and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching as a clinical preceptor, college level courses, or in a practical nursing program is required.
- Qualified through education and/or experience to assure proficiency in, but not limited to, the following areas:
- Curriculum design
- Program administration/evaluation
- Instructional methodology
- Fiscal planning/review/analysis
- Testing and evaluation
- Educational psychology
- Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills.
- Background in administrative activities including staffing, long-range planning, quality assessment/performance improvement, and evaluation of staff, preferred.
- Experience in accreditation activities, preferred.
- Competency with applicable software systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Blackboard, etc.) preferred.
- Ability to meet, successfully complete and maintain minimum health requirements, drug and/or reference checks required by college and/or clinical facilities prior to and throughout employment.
- Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Administration and the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses.
- A valid driver's license is required.
