Chief Academic Advisor
ANNOUNCEMENT
Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for the full-time administrative position of Chief Academic Officer.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, the Chief Academic Officer provides instructional oversight and leadership to the College’s Academic Divisions including: Arts and Humanities, Business, Career and Technical Education, Health Sciences and Homeland Security, Math and Sciences. This position is responsible for providing leadership in the development and delivery of the curriculum, learning deliver methods and program development. This is a highly responsible executive level position reporting to the President of the College and serving on the President’s Cabinet. The Chief Academic Officer manages activities prescribed in the administrative, personnel, budgetary and contractual policies to assure quality instruction and student services are provided to all those enrolled in the college’s programs, disciplines, and courses. Helping students learn through the effective and efficient administration and management of the instructional division is the most significant role of the Chief Academic Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A strong record of educational achievement; an earned doctorate is preferred; a master’s degree is required.
- Experience as senior-level leader in education is required.
- Teaching and administrative experience in a community college including experience with learning outcomes assessment systems is preferred.
- Ability to plan and to direct the academic affairs including experience with strategic planning and quality improvement programs preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with institutional and/or program-level review and/or accreditation preferred.
- Demonstrated experience using emerging technology in education.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as a member of the President’s cabinet and advocates for areas of responsibility.
- Interprets and recommends academic policies and administrative regulations and procedures appropriate to the division.
- Chairs the college’s Curriculum Committee.
- Provides the leadership necessary to ensure an academic environment whose focus is student success and a curriculum structured to support all learners.
- Plans, researches, and provides vision for the division’s administrators, faculty and staff.
- Manages the instructional division’s budgets.
- Responsible for the development and evaluation of the instructional division’s administrators, faculty and staff; makes appropriate recommendations to the President, including the awarding of faculty tenure.
- Provides and applies emerging technologies as resources that enable all divisional personnel to perform their duties in an effective and efficient manner.
- Supports the College’s comprehensive professional development program to help faculty improve their teaching and staff to improve their performance.
- Plans for and supports the use of instructional technology to enhance the delivery of instruction to students.
- Administers, manages, and evaluates the division’s degree and certificate programs, disciplines and courses.
- Maintains liaison with business, industry, government agencies, colleges and universities to ensure the appropriateness of the division’s curriculum to facilitate career or higher education opportunities for students.
- Creates, updates and revises relevant programs, degrees, certificates and courses as appropriate.
- Conducts periodic reviews of the college’s degree and certificate programs, including the assessment of student learning outcomes and integrates the findings with strategic planning and resource management.
- Responsible for completing various state, regional and national reports as required, plus those requested by the President.
- Works with faculty, staff and students in the creation of a positive learning environment.
- Responds appropriately to faculty, staff or student concerns.
- Assists in the development and implementation of the College’s strategic and tactical plans. Integrates academic planning, leadership and operations with College systems such as continuous quality improvement, strategic planning and collective bargaining strategy.
- Collaborates with administrative, instructional, and student development faculty or staff regarding:
- Retention and graduation efforts.
- Creation and adoption of articulation agreements that establish transfer opportunities to senior institutions of higher learning.
- Coordination of post-secondary curriculum offerings with secondary institutions.
- Promotes the instructional division and the College via publications, presentations, and discussions with various community entities.
- Keeps abreast of professional developments via professional meetings and review of literature.
- Represents the President as requested.
STARTING PAY AND HOURS
Grade 10 on the Administrative Salary Scale, ranging from $101,074 to $135,537 per year.

Belleville Campus with district wide responsibilities
