Job Posting Description:

Under administrative supervision, the Administrative Aide will assist the Associate Dean in carrying out the curricular functions of the SIU School of Dental Medicine (SDM) located in Alton, Illinois. This individual will be responsible to assist in the overall efficient operation of the unit, and for the correct and timely submission of faculty evaluations, curriculum changes, academic schedules, calendars, classroom assignments, student progress reports and American Dental Association (ADA) reporting. The Administrative Aide will plan and coordinate the SDM Commencement, Student Award Ceremony, and White Coat Ceremony. The incumbent will also complete reports and surveys from outside agencies as required and is responsible for significant contact with various outside agencies, School of Dental Medicine administration, SDM faculty, other administrative units of the University, students and the public in general. Additionally, the Administrative Aide will organize and perform administrative, secretarial and other duties to insure the daily operations of the Office of the Associate Dean run efficiently and smoothly.

Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs and goals of the department.

  1. High school graduation or equivalent.
    2.  Any one or any combination totaling five (5) years (60 months) from the following categories:
       (a)  College course work in business, finance, accounting or a related field:
                60 semester hours or an Associate’s degree equals one (1) year (12 months).
                90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months).
                120 semester hours or a Bachelor’s degree equals three (3) years (36 months).
                Master’s degree or higher equals four (4) years (48 months).
         (b)  Progressively more responsible general or specialized  office experience which included aspects of supervising staff or job function, organizing, and performing duties that lead to knowledge of generally accepted office principles.

Job Posting Description:

The Dental Assistant II performs dental assisting duties for the School of Dental Medicine’s Edwardsville clinic. This position will also temporarily work select days at the Alton clinic.  Duties include but are not limited to assisting dental students, faculty, or residents who are performing procedures; maintaining the treatment area by preparing, cleaning, and disinfecting the area before and after each patient appointment; and completing all required work in the clinical management software system. This position also prepares instruments and equipment for sterilization or disposes of instruments and equipment appropriate with the Infection Control/Hazard control policy, maintains and assures accuracy of computer logs, including procedures accomplished, cancelations and broken appointments, and other progress forms as required. The Dental Assistant II may be assigned additional duties and responsibilities in support of the department’s mission and goals.

The Dental Unit Coordinator is responsible for ordering, receiving, sterilizing, arranging, dispensing, storing, and maintaining the inventory of dental instruments, supplies, and equipment for all departments and satellite clinics of the School of Dental Medicine (SDM).   The Coordinator will place supply orders, receive and distribute ordered materials, warehouse surplus stock, invoice and track purchase orders for all goods and items. He or she will serve as the direct supervisor for dental assistants working in the diagnostic area of the clinic, which includes radiology, oral diagnosis/emergency and oral surgery. The incumbent will be responsible to operate as a back-up in dispensing/sterilization, work out on the clinic floor, and in the professional lab as needed. Additionally, the Dental Unit Coordinator will work as a dental hygienist as needed.  Further duties may be assigned based on the needs of the School and clinic.
