Librarian, Full-time
Salary: $2,935.75- $3,669.67
Job Summary:
The librarian will provide reference and instructional services, promote the library services and collections to campus constituencies, maintain online research tutorials and guides, and liaison with academic departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plan, design, and teach library research instruction classes; provide library orientation/tours and presentations to students, faculty, and staff
• Provide research assistance for special assignments and research papers through individual and group consultation appointments
• Instruct and assist patrons in locating, evaluating, and accessing print, media and electronic resources, answer general reference questions; and assist patrons in use of reference materials and indexes
• Liaison with academic departments concerning student research opportunities and concerning collection maintenance and development
• Design and maintain online research tutorials and guides
• Maintain the Library website
• Recommend to the Director of Library and Curriculum Support Services improvements in library services and the library collection; make recommendations for selection of materials for the collection including print, non-print, and online resources
• Market and promote library resources and services through innovative technology
• Provide circulation desk assistance to register borrowers; check out and check in library materials to patrons; shelve library materials, collect fines and copy money
• Provide effective circulation services including reserves, media scheduling, and interlibrary loan requests; maintain records and statistics related to interlibrary loan
• Create bibliographies and displays of library resources in specified subject or topic areas
• Catalog library materials in all platforms using the most authoritative and technologically sound methods and practices
• Withdraw materials from the collection according to collection development guidelines
Related Responsibilities:
• Assists with technical services processes and minor maintenance on books and equipment as needed
• Exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials gather data and produce statistical reports, as needed
• participate in program accreditation as necessary enforce library and college policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student information according to current state and federal law
• Proficient with computers and the Internet
• Demonstrated thorough and accurate knowledge of the field of library and information science
• Strong interest in providing reference and instruction services using multiple delivery methods and pedagogical approaches
• Demonstrated knowledge of academic research resources
• Display the ability to interpret and evaluate library objectives, policies, procedures, and techniques
• Must have excellent English oral and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate
• Ability to both enhance existing and create new public and internal services using innovative technology
• Familiarity with emerging technologies that can be leveraged for marketing and instructional purposes
• Demonstrated effective use of social media to promote library services
• Proficiency with database use, Microsoft office products, integrated library systems and web-based technologies
• Demonstrated strong organizational skills, including attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial and diverse environment
• Ability to relate to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons in a congenial and professional manner

Education and Experience Requirements:
American Library Association accredited Master of Library Science, Master of Library and Information Studies degree, or an equivalent degree, with a minimum of three years' experience as a research librarian

Surroundings/Environment: Standard office environment, usually indoors away from the elements, with moderate noise.
Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain a stationary position for an extended period; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, move about the office, climb stairs, balance, kneel, stoop, handle and feel objects, operate and position computers and files, as needed; and frequently communicate with others. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may occasionally move up to 25 pounds.
Scheduling:
This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours/weekly. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, with day, evening and weekend hours as job duties demand.
Travel:
Local travel is required, including between campus locations. Out of state travel is limited, but may be required for special trainings/conferences.
