The McLennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility (a part of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department) has openings for Juvenile Correctional Officers to work with at risk youth. The Juvenile Correctional Officer (JCO) I/II/III/IV is responsible for the direct care of juveniles in a correctional setting. The JCO I-IV performs entry-level to complex (journey-level) work supervising youth. The supervision ranges from close to general with the use of initiative and independent judgment ranging from minimal latitude to moderate latitude. JCO positions are a career ladder series. They are subject to shift work and working overtime.
For applicants with no experience - minimum education requirements are a high school diploma from an accredited high school or an accredited GED. Applicants (21-25) years of age must provide proof of registration with the selective service Starting pay may vary based on prior experience working in the adult/juvenile corrections field, military, or college education. (Original documents required for verification purposes are the DD2-14 for military service, a sealed college transcript or the original diploma.) Required Pre-employment conditions include acceptable results from a drug test, finger printing, criminal records check, driving record check, and psychological testing.
