MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

Summary

Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor ensures the production of company products at the highest quality at the lowest possible cost, meeting company performance standards and customer specifications and delivery requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures, through ensuring equipment uptime.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  1. Promotes safety and is responsible for adherence to EHS policies and processes.
  2. Leads Maintenance personnel in reactive, predictive & preventative maintenance and machine repair.
  3. Responsible for the development, implementation and day to day supervision of maintenance systems, processes and documentation associated with efficient and High Performing Manufacturing Organizations (Prevention and Predictive Maintenance, TPM, SOP’s, Safety, etc.).
  4. Develops and/or maintains Key Performance Indicators for tracking and reporting the performance of the maintenance function (party contractor performance, equipment reliability, OEE, MTTR, MTBR etc.)
  5. Actively participate in lean and continuous improvement activities related to the facility including utilization of predictive, preventive, and condition-based maintenance methodologies. Actively engage employees in areas of waste identification and elimination, including use of tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Standard work, 5S+, TPM etc
  6. Establish, plan, recruit, train and retain personnel to support the maintenance and facility requirements for effective performance of the plant operations and management of outside contractors.
  7. Manage inventory of spare parts, supplies and materials required for effective maintenance and improvement of the facility, equipment and tooling.
  8. Support capital investment process through participation in setting strategy, defining projects and executing upon assignments.
  9. Participate in planning meetings, recommending space, personnel, and equipment requirements.
  10. Act as a technical resource to address and resolve inquiries and problems; analyze and resolve work problems, and assist workers in solving work problems utilizing systematic problem solving tools (A3, 8D, 5 Why etc.)
  11. Manage personnel in scheduling day to day tasks, including vacations etc.
  12. Ensure compliance with departmental housekeeping standards and all safety and work rules and regulations.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment; Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)

Minimum 2 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment

Experience managing outside service contractors

Other

Must have a strong working knowledge of Allen Bradley software, ie. RS Logix 5000, PLC 5, SLC 500 Factory Talk View Software, Siemens Safety PLC’s, various instrumentation control devices and software. Experience with a CMMS system would be a plus.

Must have strong leadership skills to ensure effectiveness of Mechanical/Electrical. Preferred experience in a team-oriented culture in union environment while demonstrating effective empowerment of employees

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
