Phase I Scientific Director

Houston Methodist Research Institute, in partnership with Korn Ferry, is pleased to announce a national search for a Phase I Scientific Director.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the development of a nationally recognized early-phase clinical trial program supporting all relevant clinical research in the organization. The Scientific Director will administratively report to the HMRI President & CEO. They will be responsible for strategic and operational planning, and oversight and execution of Phase I clinical trials for Houston Methodist’s Cockrell Center for Advanced Therapeutics (CCAT). The Director will collaborate with Phase I investigators to ensure that Phase I clinical trials are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations and guidelines. They will provide leadership and mentorship to faculty conducting Phase I clinical trials across Houston Methodist. The Scientific Director will lead efforts to strengthen CCAT’s current research areas and develop new areas of expertise by collaborating with scientific faculty and physician scientists across multiple therapeutic areas. They will assist other researchers in study design and development of Investigator-Initiated Trials (IITs), research projects, and external grant submissions. In addition to the administrative role described above, it is expected that the Scientific Director will be actively involved in their own investigator studies and clinical care (where applicable).

The successful candidate will have an established record of outstanding research accomplishments, scientific leadership, and robust experience with conducting and managing Phase I trials - both academic and industry sponsored. Moreover, will have experience managing and leading clinical development teams, strong leadership and communication skills and an ability to manage financial and human resources and a research program involving extensive internal and external collaboration. Experience with philanthropy and donor stewardship is preferred. Qualifications and Application Process
Qualified candidates will hold a MD, DO, MD/PhD, PhD, PharmD or equivalent and should qualify for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor level.

Board certification in their speciality is required and applicants must be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas (if applicable).
