JOB SUMMARY:
- Greets patients.
- Assists the provider with patient care activities such as obtaining histories, preparation for examination and conducting point of care testing.
- Ensures examination rooms are clean and appropriately stocked.
- Performs phlebotomy and packages specimens appropriately and performs other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greets patients and prepares for examination by provider.
- Performs medical procedures correctly.
- Documents in medical record appropriately and timely.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Performs front office procedures.
- Proficient in phlebotomy.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
EXPECTED BEHAVIORS:
- Rooms patient.
- Obtains history, description of complaint, medication history and vital signs.
- Performs clinical procedures such as splinter and suture removal, dressing changes, splint application, etc., at provider's direction.
- Demonstrates competency in all point of care testing, phlebotomy, vital signs, medical procedures, etc.
- Documents service provided in the medical record in a complete, legible and timely fashion.
- Ensure examination rooms are stocked appropriately.
- Disposes of all biohazardous waste in appropriate manner.
- Assists with supply inventory management.
- Demonstrates high level customer service in all front office activities.
- Responds to telephone and direct patient contact in a pleasant and helpful manner.
- Solicits, accepts and processes patient payment at time of service.
- Enters charges and posts payments into respective systems in an accurate and timely manner.
- Knowledge of grammar and spelling to type patient information.
- Skill in operating a computer and photocopy machine.
- Skill in greeting patients and answering telephone.
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to sort and file materials.
- Ability to make mathematical computations.
- Ability to handle cash and to count money.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
- Must be able to respect the need for confidentiality.
- Works under supervision of RN Staff.
LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Prefer Certified Medical Assistant, not required.
ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires High School diploma or equivalent.
- Phlebotomy skill and experience required.
- Experience in a medical office setting (front and back office) preferred.
