Payroll/Benefits Specialist
Charleston County School District (CCSD) seeks qualified candidates to serve as Payroll/Benefits Specialist for our Payroll team to perform general and specialized duties relating to payroll, insurance, retirement, disability, COBRA, etc. under general supervision in conformance with established procedures and/or methods.
Required Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Three years of office work experience to include payroll processing, human resources and/or benefits OR a bachelor’s degree in lieu of work experience

Primary Position Responsibilities
- Verifies and processes payroll data on a semi-monthly basis and corrects error listings as appropriate;
- Receives and processes new hires, transfers and terminated employees through the actions entry system;
- Ensures errors and suspended items on EBS (insurance) and EES (retirement) are resolved in a timely manner;
- Processes and balances manual check runs between paydays and corrects error listings as appropriate;
- Processes levies and garnishments for employees;
- Processes all retirement paperwork including service agreements and service purchase agreements;
- Processes all short term and long term disability and death claims;
- Processes all COBRA participants to include billing and terminations;
- Assists with issuance of W-2 forms at the end of each calendar year and on a one to one basis when requested;
- Maintains and verifies sick leave, personal business, and vacation accruals and processes vacation payouts in Kronos and Munis;
- Receives, processes and maintains direct deposit information for employees;
- Receives, calculates and verifies salary changes;
- Prepares overpayment documentation and maintains these deductions when amounts are repaid
Secondary Position Responsibilities
- Transfers salary expenditures between accounts as required;
- Issues stop payments on paychecks and reissues check for the same;
- Assists with New Employee Orientation as needed;
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor
Hourly Rate: $20.50 - $26.30 (240 Day Position)
Based on the 2017-2018 Salary Schedule
The salary is based on years of full-time work experience derived from the employment application up to a maximum of twelve (12) years.
