Job Summary:
This position completes underwriting reviews in accordance with FHA Credit and Appraisal Guidelines and special investor overlays in a timely manner, ensuring compliance, quality and meeting closing schedules. This position counsels production and processing staff as related to current and proposed loan submissions.
Primary Duties:
* Underwrite FHA submissions in accordance with all handbooks, mortgagee letters and investor guidelines.
* Respond to HUD and investor audits and to defend unfavorable reviews or audits.
* Work with Bell production staff in defining guidelines and discussing and/or reviewing appraisals/credit submissions.
* Review government appraisals, validate the estimated value, add required repairs in accordance with Government Handbook instructions and issue the final Conditional Commitment.
* Complete all underwriting reviews in a timely manner, ensuring compliance and meeting the proposed closing schedules.
* Ensure that Bell Bank Mortgage maintains our HUD approvals and reputation as a trusted mortgage lender.

* Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Skills Required:
* 4 years of recent FHA Underwriting experience required.
* Knowledge and understanding of FHA Handbooks, (HUD) mortgagee letters and other correspondence as related to the underwriting and delivery of a quality loan product.
* Approval by the Department of Housing as a Direct Endorsement Underwriter and have the ability to sign loan approvals on behalf of the agency and Bell Bank.
* Ability to underwrite all levels of government loan submissions and to independently make prudent lending decisions based on regulations and guidelines.
* Ability to analyze appraisals and issue the HUD Conditional Commitment on government loans, plus the ability to adjust values and define the HUD required repairs within HUD policies and guidelines
* Overall understanding of economic and real estate markets from the locations where loan production originates.
