Job Description
1. Serves as an internal consultant on health information management issues including release of information, confidentiality, information security, information storage and retrieval, and record retention as well as authorship and authentication of health record documentation, standardization of medical vocabularies, and use of classification systems
2. Provides development guidance and assists in the identification, implementation, and maintenance of organization information privacy policies and procedures in coordination with organization management and administration, the Corporate Compliance Committee and legal council.
a. Privacy policies are compiled as a written document and must be consistent with the Privacy Rule. This includes creation of a privacy notice providing consumers with information on how the organization makes use of and protects their healthcare information.
3. Works with Corporate Compliance Committee to provide reports and oversight of Privacy Practices.
4. Performs initial and periodic information privacy risk assessments and conducts related ongoing privacy compliance monitoring activities in coordination with other compliance and operational assessment functions. Performs investigations and completes individual risk assessment in order to determine if a privacy breach has occurred.
5. Works with legal counsel and management, departments, and committees to ensure the organization has and maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality authorization forms, and information notices and materials reflecting current organization and legal practices and requirements.
6. Oversees, delivers, or ensures delivery of initial as well as annual and ongoing privacy training to all employees, volunteers, residents and students. Serves as information privacy consultant to Anderson entity workforce members.
7. Participates in the development, implementation, and ongoing compliance monitoring and updates to all business associate agreements, to ensure all privacy concerns, requirements, and responsibilities are addressed.
8. Establishes with management and operations a mechanism to track access to protected health information, within the purview of the organization and as required by law and to allow qualified individuals to review or receive a report on such activity.
9. Collaborates with departments to complete audits and monitors of the privacy program. (Privacy Audit Policy).
